Troops of the 81 Division Task Force Battalion, operating under Operation Hadin Kai, have thwarted an infiltration attempt by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Borno State.
Military sources confirmed that the late-night attack occurred at approximately 02:30 hrs on Thursday, 27 August 2026, when alert sentries spotted a group of insurgents crawling toward their forward defensive position at Check Point 4 along the Gulumba Gana axis.
Night Attack Repelled
The frontline unit engaged the approaching fighters, triggering an exchange of gunfire that forced the insurgents to abandon their advance:
- Infiltration Foiled: Troops opened fire immediately upon detecting the stealth approach, breaking the insurgents’ advance and forcing them to retreat under heavy pressure.
- Weapons and Casualties Recovered: During a follow-up morning search of the surrounding terrain, soldiers recovered the bodies of four ISWAP fighters along with four AK-47 assault rifles.
- Fleeing Insurgents Wounded: Blood trails along the retreat route indicated that several other insurgents escaped with gunshot injuries.
- Zero Military Losses: No casualties or injuries were recorded among the military personnel involved in the engagement.
Military commanders reported that while the overall security situation in the sector remains calm yet unpredictable, troops maintain a high state of operational readiness and morale across the Lake Chad basin.
