The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out an eight-count criminal charge brought by the Nigerian government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of impersonating the Director-General of an unauthorized body titled the “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.”
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar terminated the proceedings on Monday, October 12, 2026, following an application by the Federal Ministry of Justice to withdraw the case from the Federal High Court.
Moving the application, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation had reviewed the initial prosecution file prepared by the Nigeria Police Force and identified procedural and jurisdictional issues.
Mr Oyedepo explained that the alleged forgery offenses committed while operating the unapproved council fall properly under the jurisdiction of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“Fresh charges have already been filed before the FCT High Court, and the defendant will be re-arraigned without delay,” the prosecutor stated.
Defence counsel Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, raised no objection to the prosecution’s request to withdraw the matter.
The 38-year-old suspect had been facing trial on counts bordering on criminal conspiracy and forgery alongside two accomplices who remain at large. The prosecution confirmed that Mr Adeyemi will be transferred to face immediate trial under the FCT judicial framework.
