Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim and Foil Terror Attack in Northern Nigeria

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued a kidnapped man in Kaduna State and repelled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State.

The military operations, conducted on 20 and 21 August 2026, form part of an ongoing counter-terrorism offensive aimed at curbing armed banditry and kidnappings across Nigeria’s north-western region.

Key Security Operations

Details provided by military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja highlight two successful rapid-response interventions:

  • Kaduna Rescue: Troops deployed to Kachia Local Government Area on 20 August following the abduction of a 43-year-old man in Awon community. Security forces pursued the attackers into surrounding bushland, forcing them to abandon the hostage, who has since been reunited with his family.
  • Sokoto Repel: On 21 August, troops teamed up with local vigilantes to foil a raid on Kwaren Gamba village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area. One attacker was killed in the ensuing firefight, while soldiers recovered mobile phones, cash, and banking cards abandoned by the fleeing group.

Military authorities reiterated their commitment to sustaining pressure on armed groups in the North West and urged local residents to continue sharing timely intelligence with security forces.
