Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has arrived in Luanda, Angola, ahead of the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
The Minister landed at Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto Angola International Airport on Tuesday evening, where she was received by Angolan Ministry of External Relations representative Ambassador Matias Pires, alongside senior diplomats from the Nigerian Mission in Angola led by Acting Chargé d’Affaires Ambassador Maxy Ogbede.
High-Level Representation and Regional Peace Strategy
The summit, scheduled for 29–30 August 2026, will focus on strengthening continental mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution:
- Presidential Delegation: Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu will receive Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima on Friday, who is representing President Bola Tinubu at the high-level continental gathering.
- Key Objectives: Building on decisions from recent AU assemblies, the extraordinary summit aims to review the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), enhance preventive diplomacy, improve coordination between the AU and regional economic bodies, and address the structural root causes of conflicts across Africa.
- Bilateral Engagements: In addition to participating in the 26th Extraordinary Session of the AU Executive Council, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings, inspect the Nigerian Embassy, and engage with the Nigerian diaspora community in Angola.
