Nigeria’s new High Commissioner to India, Saidu Dahiru Muhammad, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to Indian President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
During the ceremony on Monday, 24 August 2026, the envoy conveyed warm greetings from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening the long-standing strategic relationship between both nations.
Expanding Trade, Defense, and Digital Cooperation
Ambassador Muhammad highlighted trade expansion, investment attraction, and bilateral cooperation across critical growth sectors as the core priorities of his tenure:
- Economic Priorities: The High Commissioner pledged to drive greater Indian investment into Nigeria, targeting key sectors including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, energy, manufacturing, ICT, and digital transformation.
- Defense and Cultural Links: Beyond commercial engagement, Muhammad underscored the need to strengthen bilateral collaboration in defense, security, education, and cultural exchanges.
- Indian Commitment: Welcoming the Nigerian envoy, President Murmu highlighted India’s role as a major trading partner to Nigeria, acknowledging the contributions of Indian enterprises to the West African nation’s economic development.
The presentation of credentials signals a renewed push by both governments to translate decades of diplomatic friendship into stronger commercial partnerships and tangible economic benefits for their citizens.
