Nigeria requests land from local state to expand electricity grid

Nigeria’s state-owned power grid operator has requested land allocation from authorities in northeastern Bauchi State to construct two new electricity substations aimed at improving regional power reliability.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) urged state officials on Monday to accelerate access to designated plots in the Alkaleri and Toro local council areas. Muhammed Ahmed, acting general manager for TCN’s regional transmission division, made the request during a delegation visit to Bauchi’s Ministry of Land and Survey on November 2.”Timely land allocation is essential to ensure these critical projects proceed without delay,” Ahmed said, adding that expanding the regional network would significantly increase transmission capacity and stabilize bulk electricity supplies across host communities.

TCN executives also commended the state government for engaging local communities affected by the development and for enforcing right-of-way clearance regulations along existing high-voltage corridors to remove safety hazards.

In response, Shuaibu Alhaji Mohammed, permanent secretary of the state’s land ministry, pledged full support for the land acquisition process and committed to enhancing security around vital power infrastructure.
