Nigeria’s inflation rate fell slightly to 15.91% in June, marking the first drop in living costs in three months, according to official figures.
Data released on Wednesday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows a marginal decrease of 0.02% from the 15.93% recorded in May 2026.
On a month-on-month basis, the rate at which prices rose also slowed down. The monthly inflation rate for June stood at 1.66%, down from the 1.75% recorded the previous month.
The NBS explained that this monthly slowdown “means that in June 2026, the rate of increase in the average price level was lower than the rate of increase in the average price level in May 2026”.
While the decline offers a small breather for consumers in Africa’s most populous nation, overall prices for food, transport, and basic services remain high, keeping pressure on the central bank to maintain its tight monetary policy.
