HOUSTON, USA — The 2026 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) has opened in Texas, with Nigeria’s national oil company taking centre stage to showcase its strategic role in the global energy market.
Energy professionals and policymakers from over 100 countries gathered at Houston’s NRG Park on Monday for the start of the four-day event. Senior executives from NNPC Limited, including Chief Financial Officer Dapo Segun and Executive Vice President for Upstream, Udy Ntia, joined the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission’s Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, to formally open the Nigerian Pavilion.
A Call for ‘Energy Balance’
The conference’s general session was opened by the President of Guyana, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali. In a keynote address that set the tone for the week, Dr. Ali urged the industry to move beyond the binary debate over the energy transition.
He called on global leaders to focus instead on “energy balance”—a strategy that seeks to reconcile the world’s growing demand for affordable fuel with long-term climate goals.

Nigeria’s Global Standing
NNPC Limited’s prominent presence at the conference is seen as a move to reinforce its status as Africa’s leading national oil company.
As Nigeria continues to reform its petroleum sector, officials said the engagement in Houston is vital for:
- Attracting fresh offshore investment.
- Strengthening ties with international energy partners.
- Adopting new subsea and deepwater technologies.
The conference remains one of the world’s most significant platforms for offshore energy, providing a venue for Nigeria to signal its readiness for high-level industry collaboration.
