The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has denied claims that recent power supply disruptions across Abuja were caused by faults on its transmission lines, attributing the shortfall instead to low national grid generation.
The statement issued on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, comes in response to a public notice by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), which blamed a sharp drop in its power allocation on line trippings along the Shiroro transmission corridor.
Grid Generation vs Transmission Faults
AEDC had informed customers that its daily supply allocation had dropped from approximately 641 MW to 314 MW, citing trippings on the 330 kV transmission lines supplying the Federal Capital Territory from the Shiroro Substation:
- TCN Rebuttal: The transmission company rejected the claim as inaccurate, confirming that all 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja region remain fully operational and in circuit.
- Cause of Outages: TCN clarified that the reduced supply and subsequent load shedding across feeder channels stem directly from reduced bulk power generation across the national grid, rather than equipment failure on its network.
- Commitment to Integrity: Emphasising the need for accurate public communications, TCN reiterated its commitment to maintaining grid stability and efficiently transmitting available bulk power nationwide.
The clarification leaves electricity consumers in the capital awaiting a recovery in national generation capacity to restore regular power supply levels.
