ROME, Italy — Italian police have arrested five African migrants, including two Nigerians, following the alleged abduction and three-day gang rape of a Colombian tourist in Rome.
According to a report by the British newspaper Daily Express, the 32-year-old victim was allegedly lured away from a restaurant in the Italian capital by a man offering to sell her hashish.
Instead, she was reportedly driven in a van to an abandoned building on the eastern outskirts of the city, where authorities say she was held captive for approximately 72 hours, drugged, and repeatedly assaulted.
The Escape and Police Raid
The victim managed to escape from the building and was discovered half-naked on a pavement by a passerby, who immediately alerted emergency services.
Following a swift investigation, police raided the abandoned property, leading to the arrest of five suspects:
- The Gambian Nationals: Saidykhan Lamin, 29, and Karamba Kanteh, 38.
- The Malian National: Harouna Traore, 43.
- The Nigerian Nationals: Isibor Wisdom, 29, and Paul Nwabueze, 39.
All five men have been formally charged with gang rape, aggravated by the victim’s vulnerable condition, and they currently remain in police custody.
Ongoing Investigation and Mass Deportations
Italian authorities confirmed that the investigation is far from over, with detectives actively working to track down further accomplices. These include the unidentified man who originally lured the tourist from the restaurant and the driver of the van used in the abduction.
The raid on the squatted property also exposed a larger illegal immigration network.
Police discovered 22 undocumented migrants living inside the building during the operation. Of those detained, 11 have already been transferred to secure immigration detention centres ahead of formal deportation procedures.
