Parts of central and southern Nigeria will experience temporary power outages on Tuesday as engineers carry out annual preventive maintenance at a key transmission hub, the state-owned grid operator has announced.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said in a statement that the scheduled work at the 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation will run from 09:00 to 16:00 local time (08:00 to 15:00 GMT).
Engineers will service a 162MVA power transformer along with associated switchgear and support equipment to help ensure long-term reliability of the supply network.
The interruption will affect local distribution networks managed by both the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
Areas Affected
- AEDC Customers: Towns including Ekirin, Omuo, Ibillo, Akoko, Ogala, Ikare, Magongo, Okene Town, Ayere, Kabba, and surrounding communities.
- BEDC Customers: Communities including Okpella Town, Ososo, Uluoke, Iyora, Apana, Okpekpe, Arigidi, Ikare Town, Lampese, Igara, and Oka.
- Industrial Facilities: Major industrial consumers—including the BUA Cement Company, West African Fertilizer Company, Dibeks Milling Company, Edestein Company, and Freedom Group Company—will also face temporary supply disruptions.
TCN stated that electricity supplies will be restored immediately once maintenance work concludes, apologizing to residential and commercial customers for the temporary disruption.
