Los Angeles, USA – Beyoncé has won her first Emmy Award for her Western-themed “Beyoncé Bowl” halftime show, which aired on Netflix. She was part of a team of six who won the Outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program award.
The halftime show, which took place during an NFL game in her hometown of Houston, featured the live debut of songs from her album Cowboy Carter. The Emmy win marks a significant step towards achieving an EGOT, as she now has 35 Grammy Awards and an Emmy. She still needs a Tony and an Oscar to complete the quartet.
The award was a juried Emmy, determined by a committee rather than a public vote. Juried Emmys are often given for technical achievements and are typically announced before the main ceremony. Beyoncé is also nominated for two other Emmys for the special: one for best variety special and another for best direction of a variety special. Her husband, Jay-Z, is also nominated in the same category for his work as an executive producer on Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show.
