The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the ex-depot prices of petrol and diesel to help ease fuel costs across Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the Dangote Group on Wednesday, the refinery confirmed that the wholesale price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) has been cut from ₦1,215 to ₦1,165 per litre, representing a ₦50 reduction.
The price of automotive gas oil (diesel) was also reduced by ₦80 per litre, moving down from ₦1,650 to ₦1,570.
Enhancing affordability
The company stated that the price review is intended to enhance energy affordability, improve access to refined products, and support domestic economic activity.
“The price review reflects Dangote Refinery’s ongoing efforts to enhance energy affordability, improve access to refined petroleum products, and support economic activities across Nigeria,” the statement read.
The refinery added that it plans to pass further operational cost savings onto consumers whenever market conditions allow.
By increasing domestic output, the mega-refinery aims to strengthen Nigeria’s energy security and reduce the country’s historic reliance on imported refined petroleum.
