A bomb explosion at an Islamic school in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory has killed two people and injured two others. The blast occurred on Monday morning at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of Abuja.
According to FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, preliminary investigations suggest that three men from Katsina visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and brought the explosive device with them. Two of the men died while tampering with the improvised explosive device (IED) on the school’s veranda, while the third man and a female trader were injured and are receiving treatment under police guard ยน.
The FCT Bomb Squad has confirmed that it was an IED explosion, and remnants of the device have been recovered. The police have taken the school’s owner into custody for questioning, and further findings will be communicated in due course.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or items that may resemble improvised explosive devices to the police
