The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has praised Dangote Refinery for its recent decision to reduce fuel prices, describing it as a timely economic relief for Nigerians. According to Funmi Sessi, NLC Chairman for Lagos Council, the refinery’s operation has come at the right time, and the price cut is expected to ease transportation costs, lower prices of goods and services, and provide financial relief to citizens struggling with the high cost of living.
Sessi noted that Dangote Refinery’s production of 650,000 barrels per day has introduced healthy competition in the sector, leading to a reduction in petroleum prices. The refinery has also started exporting petroleum to countries like Ghana and Togo, which is expected to help stabilize the currency.
The NLC has welcomed this relief, urging other stakeholders to follow Dangote’s example for the benefit of all Nigerians. Sessi also expressed optimism about the proposed 2025 budget, stating that strict implementation could lead to improvements in security, food production, and other areas.
However, not everyone is satisfied with the price cut. The NLC and some civil society organizations have called for further reductions, arguing that the current price of N935 per litre is still too high
