Major Nigerian Christian denominations have strongly refuted viral allegations that former President Olusegun Obasanjo allocated oil wells to their founders during his time in office.
The claims originated from a sermon circulating on social media by the founder of the Ministers’ Prayer Network, Rev. Mosy Madugba, who alleged that prominent clerics—including Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide, and Pastor William Kumuyi of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry—benefited from oil well allocations alongside owning private universities, schools, and hospitals.

The allegations have sparked widespread online debate regarding the integrity and financial transparency of the religious leaders.
Denials from church leadership
Representatives for the affected ministries dismissed the assertions as entirely baseless:

- Deeper Life: A senior media aide speaking anonymously to Sunday PUNCH labeled the claims “ridiculous,” maintaining that Pastor Kumuyi is exclusively devoted to preaching the gospel and winning souls rather than commercial business ventures.
- Living Faith (Winners’ Chapel): Patrick Nkamiang, the church’s Director of Media, dismissed the claims by emphasizing that petroleum resources are governed by national laws and are not personal property for a president to distribute arbitrarily. Nkamiang added that Bishop Oyedepo maintains a strict policy regarding funds and donations, though he noted the church would forgo legal action and leave the matter to God.
- RCCG: An official within the RCCG media unit stated that the church would not issue a formal response until Madugba substantiates his claims with verifiable evidence.

Efforts by media correspondents to reach Rev. Madugba’s church and former President Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
The circulating video contained no documentary proof or concrete evidence to substantiate the oil well allocations.
