Nigeria moves to bolster power grid reliability with key equipment delivery in Benin region

Nigeria’s state-owned power grid operator, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has delivered a major consignment of maintenance equipment and spare parts to its Benin sub-region in a bid to improve grid stability and reduce outages.

The shipment, dispatched from the company’s Project Monitoring Unit in the capital, Abuja, arrived at the Benin facility on Monday. The delivered hardware includes critical high-voltage components, such as 330kV and 132kV tripping coils, rapid pressure relays, current transformer ratio clamps, gantry structures, and porcelain insulators. The items have been secured in local stores for immediate deployment.Grid infrastructure in Africa’s most populous nation has long faced operational challenges, with frequent power outages impacting economic activity and daily life.

TCN stated that the new equipment will allow engineering teams to carry out routine maintenance and emergency repairs more rapidly.

The upgrade is expected to reduce network downtime and ensure a more stable supply of high-voltage electricity to regional distribution companies servicing homes and businesses across southern Nigeria
