Nigeria Opposition ADC Facing Backlash Over Unpaid Staff Salaries

ABUJA — A Nigerian political group has accused the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) of worsening economic hardship in the country by failing to pay its party staff salaries for over a year.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Democratic Front (TDF) condemned the ADC, describing the alleged non-payment as a display of gross insensitivity and hypocrisy.”We condemn the ADC for being hypocritical in crying more than the bereaved by exaggerating the narrative of hardship and poverty in Nigeria, while actively contributing to the rising national poverty index in refusing to pay staff salaries in the last year,” said TDF Chairman Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary Chief Wale Adedayo.

The TDF argued that the opposition party frequently criticises President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the country’s economic challenges while failing to uphold basic labor standards within its own organization.

The advocacy group further questioned the political capability of the ADC’s leadership, alleging that key figures within the party have past track records of anti-worker policies and mismanagement.”By its unpardonable failure to ascribe dignity to labour, the ADC and its leaders have shown gross incompetence and inability to manage the Nigerian economy if given the opportunity,” the statement added.

Calling on the electorate to reject the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections, the TDF urged Nigerians to back the current administration’s ongoing economic and poverty alleviation programs instead.
