Power cuts expected in parts of Abuja due to urgent substation maintenance

Residents across parts of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, face temporary power outages on Wednesday following urgent maintenance work at a key electricity substation.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that engineers were carrying out three hours of work at the 330/132kV Gwagwalada Transmission Substation between 10:00 and 13:00 local time.

The exercise is to repair a 33kV earthing reactor at the facility.

As a result, the local supplier, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), was unable to distribute power to several major areas, including Asokoro, Kabusa, EFAB Estate, Apo Resettlement, Trademoore, and the Aso Villa presidential complex.

TCN apologized to affected customers for any inconvenience caused during the scheduled disruption.
