Nigeria restores power to southern grid after essential maintenance

Power supply has been fully restored to several communities in southern Nigeria following planned maintenance work on a key transmission line, the country’s electricity operator has said.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that bulk power was brought back online at approximately 20:15 local time (19:15 GMT) on Saturday, October 31, via the Uyo/Itu 132kV transmission line. The temporary outage, which began at 10:00 local time on Saturday, was required to allow engineers to carry out annual preventive maintenance along the route in Akwa Ibom State. With the completion of the repairs, the regional distributor—Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC)—has resumed off-taking power for distribution to residential and commercial customers. The affected locations include Eket, Ikot-Abasi, Etinan, Ikot Ekpene, Onna, and the Uyo Complex.

In a statement, TCN management apologized to residents and businesses in the affected areas for the inconvenience caused during the shutdown.
