KEBBI — Nigerian troops attached to Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued nine kidnap victims and recovered 108 stolen livestock following tactical operations in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The counter-banditry operation, conducted by Sector 2 troops around the Danko general area and Sabon Tunga village, was launched following urgent distress calls reporting armed raids on local communities.
Military authorities confirmed that ground forces swiftly mobilized to intercept the criminal group, engaging the suspects in a firefight that forced them to flee into surrounding terrain and abandon their captives.
Two individuals—Barbuga Bawashe, 26, and Barka Dakaji, 61—were rescued immediately at the scene. Troops also recovered 34 cows and 74 rams rustled during the raid.

In a concurrent operation within the same sector, seven additional captives escaped their abductors amidst ongoing military pressure in the Sabon Tunga and Binoni axis.
Defence officials identified the seven escapees, several of whom had spent months in captivity, as:
- Adults: Muhammad Dogonta, 60; Zakari Yahu, 32; and Yehusa Lawali, 35.
- Minors: Basara Sheu, 10; Adam Shehu, 12; Albaria Hamsu, 12; and Hatsat Umar, 14.
All nine rescued individuals have been formally handed over to the District Head of Unashi to facilitate their medical screening and immediate reunion with their families.
The operation forms part of wider offensive maneuvers by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to neutralize armed bandit networks, secure rural farming communities, and curb livestock rustling across Nigeria’s North-West region.
