A major power transmission line serving parts of Kano metropolis in northern Nigeria has been taken offline to allow for critical infrastructure construction, electricity authorities said.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that the 132kV Kumbotso–Dan’Agundi transmission line was shut down on Thursday morning to facilitate structural works on a flyover road project in the area. Engineers are completing the installation and wiring of a road crossing tower near the site of the ongoing Dan’Agundi Flyover project.
The shutdown, which began at 10:28 local time on Thursday, is scheduled to last until Saturday, 31 October.
The maintenance work has forced localized power cuts across parts of Nigeria’s second-largest city and surrounding communities served by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
To cushion the impact of the disruption, grid operators say they are rerouting electrical loads from the affected Dan’Agundi substation to alternative facilities at Dakata and Rimin Zakara.
TCN expressed regret for the disruption to residents and local businesses while the construction work is completed.
