Parts of Abuja face seven-hour outage for grid maintenance

Parts of Nigeria’s capital territory and surrounding regions will experience a seven-hour power outage on Saturday due to scheduled maintenance, electricity authorities have announced.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said engineers would be conducting routine servicing on a 150MVA power transformer and connected switchgear at the Katampe substation.

The works, scheduled between 09:00 and 16:00 local time, will temporarily disrupt supply to several suburbs of Abuja and nearby towns.

According to the statement, local distributor Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to draw power for customers during the maintenance window.

Areas affected include Kubwa PW, Dutse Makaranta, Ushafa, Jere, Jiwa, parts of Suleja, Kaduna Road, Sabon Wuse, Dikko, Zuba, Madalla, Dakwa, Tugan Maje, and neighbouring communities.

TCN apologised to residents and businesses in the affected areas for the interruption
