Electricity supply has been restored to a major transmission substation serving Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory following an earlier fault on a key power line, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said. Bulk power supply was re-established at the Katampe 330kV transmission substation in Abuja at 16:15 local time (15:15 GMT) on Friday, after operators routed electricity through the alternative Gwagwalada–Katampe supply line.
The outage occurred earlier in the day when the primary Shiroro–Katampe line failed due to an unspecified fault. Operators said that line remains out of service while repairs are carried out. To restore supply quickly, grid engineers suspended scheduled maintenance on the Gwagwalada–Katampe line, which had been set for repairs including the replacement of defective isolators and earthing switches.
TCN apologized for the disruption to consumers across affected areas of the capital and surrounding districts.
