Power cuts expected in parts of Abuja today as TCN carries out substation maintenance

ABUJA — Electricity consumers in parts of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory are set to face an eight-hour power outage today as maintenance work is carried out on key infrastructure in the region.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that engineers will perform planned maintenance at the Kubwa 132/33kV substation on Wednesday, October 7, between 10:00 and 18:00 local time (09:00 to 17:00 GMT). During the scheduled work, maintenance crews will replace a faulty 33kV National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) feeder circuit breaker and a damaged yellow phase current transformer with new equipment. As a result, the regional power distribution firm, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), will be unable to pull electricity from the substation to supply nearby residential and commercial districts. The temporary outage will affect residents and businesses in Kubwa, Bwari, the Army Resettlement Estate, parts of Dutse Alhaji, and surrounding communities.

In a statement signed by its management, TCN expressed regret over the disruption and apologized to affected customers for any inconvenience caused.
