Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Okezie Ikpeazu, has held talks with Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas Puchades, to boost agricultural technology transfer, crop yields, and food preservation.
The bilateral meeting took place on Thursday, 17 September, at the Palacio de Fomento in Madrid, following Ambassador Ikpeazu’s formal presentation of his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Felipe VI.
Minister Planas highlighted Spain’s advanced agritech capabilities, particularly in crop disease prevention, high-yielding seed development, and food preservation policies that helped cut domestic food loss by 20% in 2025. He noted that Nigeria’s vast arable land—making up over 40% of its total territory—presents immense potential for large-scale agro-food and livestock expansion.
In response, Ambassador Ikpeazu emphasized that expanding agricultural output remains a core priority of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to achieve national food security, drive youth employment, and address irregular migration.
