PRP Candidate Muoneme Dismisses Former Senator Aduda as 2027 FCT Race Intensifies

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) senatorial candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the 2027 elections, Dr. Juliet Muoneme, has dismissed former Senator Philip Aduda as a major threat to her ambition, arguing that his 20-year record in the National Assembly speaks for itself.

Speaking at a media interactive session with the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) in Abuja on Friday, Muoneme stated that FCT residents have had ample opportunity to evaluate Aduda’s performance during his eight years in the House of Representatives and twelve years in the Senate.

Evaluating a 20-Year Tenure

Muoneme questioned the rationale behind the former lawmaker’s bid to return to the National Assembly, suggesting that a strong performance record should speak without aggressive campaigning:

• Record of Service: She noted that two decades in office should give voters a clear basis for assessment, adding that if his tenure had been genuinely transformative, the electorate would naturally demand his return.
• Succession and Leadership: Outlining her own vision, Muoneme emphasized that her focus would be on mentoring younger leaders and creating sustainable succession structures, contrasting her approach with prolonged tenure in office.
• Ministerial Role Clarification: Dismissing suggestions that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike poses an obstacle to her bid, she clarified that executive ministerial duties remain entirely distinct from legislative representation.

Platform and Policy Agenda

Addressing the strength of the PRP against more dominant political parties, Muoneme argued that strong candidates build the platform, pointing to historical precedents where candidates transformed party fortunes.

• FCT RISE Agenda: Her campaign framework focuses on representation, research, innovation, inclusion, stewardship, entrepreneurship, and empowerment across all six FCT area councils.
• Housing and Skills Initiatives: Priorities include expanding access to affordable housing through mortgage partnerships, establishing an automotive hub for technical skills acquisition, and expanding micro-credit schemes for youth empowerment.
• Security and Governance: She advocated for ranched livestock management to resolve motorist-cattle friction in the capital, while rejecting vote-buying in favour of credibility and competence.

As campaigns begin to take shape across the Federal Capital Territory, the contest highlights a growing debate over whether long-standing political experience or fresh legislative agendas will shape the capital’s representation in 2027.
