Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence has dismissed reports claiming that Defence Minister General Christopher Musa plans to resign, calling the allegations “completely fabricated”.
In a statement released on Monday, the ministry urged the public to ignore the claims, which have been circulating widely across social media and online news platforms. Leah Katung-Babatunde, special assistant on media to the minister, described the reports as “absolute falsehood borne out of complete mischief.””General Christopher Gwabin Musa remains fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy,” the statement read.
The ministry also advised media outlets and members of the public to refrain from sharing unverified reports and to seek official clarification before publishing statements regarding national security leadership.
Gen. Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, was appointed to the cabinet to lead Nigeria’s campaign against persistent security challenges, including insurgencies in the north-east and banditry in the north-west.
