The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has killed several members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and destroyed numerous bandit camps across northern Nigeria, following a directive to increase the tempo of counter-terrorism operations.
The attacks, carried out on November 9, 2025, involved a series of precision airstrikes in Borno, Kwara, and Katsina states, aimed at dismantling criminal and insurgent networks.
Focus on ISWAP Strongholds
In Borno State, air interdiction missions delivered a significant blow to ISWAP terrorists entrenched in the Northern Tumbuns region.
Guided by real-time intelligence and surveillance, NAF assets conducted precision strikes southeast of Shuwaram before targeting Mallam Fatori, where ISWAP elements were observed mobilising with boats and motorcycles along the Lake Chad Basin.
The coordinated strikes successfully destroyed insurgent hideouts, logistics hubs, and weapons storage facilities, crippling the mobility of the terrorists and eliminating several fighters. Post-strike assessments confirmed a significant degradation of ISWAP’s operational capabilities in the area.
Expanding Reach Against Bandits
Simultaneously, the NAF conducted precision strikes against bandits in the North West and North Central regions:
- Kwara State: Aircraft struck bandit camps in Garin Dandi and Chigogo, causing heavy losses among the criminals.
- Katsina State: Air assets under Operation FANSAN YAMMA struck Zango Hill in Kankara, a known hideout of a terrorist kingpin, destroying key logistics hubs and neutralising several fighters.
These missions underscore a “renewed tempo” following directives from the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, who instructed air component commanders to “fly smarter and strike harder” to project intelligence-driven airpower.
The military action comes days after President Bola Tinubu pledged to intensify the fight against terrorism, following international pressure regarding instability in the region.
