London, UK – Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has met with the British Foreign Secretary in London to reaffirm and deepen the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The high-level talks, held at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), covered a broad spectrum of shared priorities, including:Trade and Investment: Exploring new avenues for economic partnership. Security and Defence: Strengthening ongoing cooperation in defence and governance. Education and Migration: Discussing existing people-to-people ties. Climate Action: Addressing global environmental challenges collaboratively.
Ambassador Tuggar characterised the meeting as “constructive and forward-looking,” highlighting that the discussions were underpinned by the “long-standing friendship and shared democratic values” linking Nigeria and the United Kingdom.”Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration that delivers tangible benefits to their citizens,” a statement following the meeting confirmed.
Focus on Regional Stability
In addition to bilateral issues, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on current global and regional developments. They acknowledged the vital contribution of the Nigerian diaspora to the relationship and explored ways to build upon these enduring cultural and familial links. The meeting concluded with a commitment from both parties to maintain regular dialogue and ensure effective follow-up on the agreed areas of cooperation.
