Monrovia, Liberia – The Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched an awareness campaign in Liberia to combat drug abuse and address mental health issues. The initiative, running from August 4 to 8, 2025, in Monrovia, is part of a broader regional effort to tackle a growing challenge in West Africa.
This campaign follows similar missions conducted in Conakry, Guinea, and Freetown, Sierra Leone, earlier this year. The goal is to engage a wide range of stakeholders on the escalating problems of substance abuse and related mental health disorders, which are becoming increasingly prevalent in the region.
A delegation of ECOWAS Parliament members and staff will meet with Liberian national authorities, including ministerial representatives, health professionals, civil society groups, and local officials. The group also plans to visit specialized treatment centers to gain a firsthand understanding of the situation on the ground.
The campaign underscores ECOWAS’s commitment to building a resilient community that prioritizes the well-being of its youth and addresses the public health challenges facing its member states.
