ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is intensifying its non-kinetic strategies to foster peace and build trust in Nigeria’s volatile South-East region. This initiative, aimed at strengthening public confidence in the security architecture, recently saw a significant civil-military engagement in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The engagement, led by the Air Component Commander (ACC) of Operation UDO KA, involved direct interaction with a wide array of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and grassroots communities. In a show of transparency, military and civil helicopters were deployed as part of the outreach, demonstrating the NAF’s peaceful intentions. Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff, underscored this approach, stating, “Building trust is as vital as any military operation. We are set out to protect, not to intimidate.”

The forum, held in Ogbete and Agamede communities, addressed local security concerns, particularly public misconceptions about recent helicopter flights. According to the NAF, clarifying these operations helped alleviate tensions and showcased their readiness to engage directly with community fears. Dignitaries present, including the Anglican Bishop of Eha-Amufu Diocese, Right Reverend Daniel Nkemjika Olinya, lauded the initiative and encouraged continued collaboration for regional stability. This push for dialogue and community partnership is a cornerstone of the NAF’s national security efforts, aiming for a “true victory” that includes winning the confidence of the people it serves.
