Lagos, Nigeria – Police in Lagos State have detained 23 individuals, described as suspected “miscreants,” in connection with a series of daylight assaults, harassment, and thefts targeting shops and residents in the Mushin area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday, the suspects, aged between 14 and 16 years, were apprehended on Monday in the Ishaga, Awolowo, and Ojuwoye areas of Mushin.
Mr. Hundeyin acknowledged public concerns over recent incidents and stated that reports from the community had led to a thorough review of police operational tactics. He confirmed that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has deployed additional tactical squads, Police Mobile Force personnel, and other conventional police teams specifically to Mushin and its adjoining areas.
The police spokesperson asserted that “total normalcy” has been restored to Mushin and other parts of the state, encouraging residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear. He added that the Area Commander for Mushin has been directed to meet with local government chairmen to strategise further strengthening security deployments.
Hundeyin indicated that raids on identified criminal hideouts, black spots, and slums where gangs are believed to be hiding will continue until these areas are “completely rid of the hoodlums and miscreants.” The arrested suspects are currently under investigation and are expected to be charged in court soon.
Commissioner Jimoh assured residents that their safety and security remain a top priority and urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station for swift response.
