Nigerian Police, working with the Army and local Fulani vigilantes, have rescued three people who were kidnapped in a forest in Kogi State, North Central Nigeria.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the rescue in a statement on Monday evening. According to the police spokesman, SP William Aya, the operation took place during an ongoing raid in the Ankomi forest.
Mr. Aya stated that “all the victims were rescued unhurt after a gun duel with the hoodlums in the bush.” He added that the “superior firepower of the joint security team” forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee with gunshot injuries.
The rescued individuals have been identified as Musa Abdullahi, 28, from Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State, and Abdulazeez Adamu, 35, from Okene in Kogi State. Police say both men were abducted on Thursday, 15 May, from a J5 vehicle along the Osara road while travelling from Ekpoma in Edo State towards Jos in Plateau State.
The third victim was named as Yusuf Ibrahim, 42, from Zaria Local Government in Kaduna State. He was reportedly abducted from a trailer on the same date and at the same location.
The Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, CP Miller Dantawaye, praised the joint security team for their “outstanding gallantry” during the operation to clear the forest.
He assured the people of Kogi State that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are committed to eradicating all forms of crime in the state. The command also urged communities in the surrounding areas to be vigilant and report anyone seeking medical attention for suspicious injuries to the nearest security formation.
