Nigeria’s PDP Accepts Court Ruling, Backs Fubara-Led Faction

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accepted the judgment of the Rivers State High Court, which nullified the party’s Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses held in 2024. The court ruling effectively disbanded the congress-elected executives loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and recognized the Nname Robinson Ewor-led faction, aligned with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as the legitimate state executives.

The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) confirmed its acceptance of the court’s decision, praising it for upholding the party’s principles of due process and internal democracy. The NWC urged all party members to support the Ewor-led executive, emphasizing the need for unity, stability, and growth within the party in Rivers State.

This development comes amid an ongoing rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Minister Wike, over control of the party’s structure in the state. Despite several failed reconciliation attempts, Wike’s faction had emerged victorious in the congresses held last year. However, the court ruling has now shifted the balance in favour of Fubara’s allies.
