President Bola Tinubu will travel to Accra, Ghana, on Monday, January 6, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7. This trip comes at the invitation of Mahama, who visited President Tinubu in December.
Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in December 2024. He will succeed President Nana Akuffo-Addo, who has been in office since 2017.
According to Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu and Mahama have a longstanding personal relationship, mirroring the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will join other African leaders at the inauguration ceremony. He will be accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials on his second trip to Ghana.
