A technical workshop organized by The Electoral Institute, in collaboration with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), kicked off on Monday at Heritage Hotel, Akure, Ondo State. The five-day training, scheduled to run until October 11, aims to equip Electoral Officers (EOs) and Assistant Electoral Officers Operations (AEO-EOps) with the necessary skills to manage electoral training for the upcoming Ondo State Governorship Election on November 16, 2024.
Training Objectives:
- Mastering electoral processes and procedures
- Effective management of key electoral activities
- Election Day activities
- Cascade Training plan review for efficient implementation across 18 Local Government Areas
The Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Ondo State, Oluwatoyin Babalola, emphasized the importance of internalizing Election Day processes to ensure quality training. She also highlighted the goal of improving upon the recently conducted Edo State Governorship Election.
Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, Director General of The Electoral Institute, stressed the significance of the training in preparing EOs/AEOs for the Ondo State Governorship Election. He noted that technological innovations like BVAS and iREV will guarantee a free, fair, credible, and inclusive election.
Serah Jay, Country Director of IFES, encouraged participants to utilize the training to enhance their skills.”The training is designed to sharpen your skills,” Jay said through Judith Toryem.
Dr. Binta Kasim Mohammed, Director of Training, urged participants to take advantage of the training to upscale their capacity.
“Fill knowledge gaps to function efficiently as Election Managers,” Dr. Mohammed said.
