ABUJA — The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has strongly condemned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for attempting to link its recent campaign rally in Sokoto to the Federal High Court judgment that sacked the David Mark-led leadership and invalidated Atiku Abubakar’s presidential candidacy for the January 16, 2027 election.
In a statement signed by Chairman Emeka Nwankpa and Secretary Dapo Okubanjo, the group described the narrative as misleading, mischievous, and dangerous, accusing the opposition of promoting falsehoods against democratic institutions.
Contradictory narratives and judicial hypocrisy
TMSG pointed out the internal contradictions within the opposition camp, noting that the ousted ADC leadership claimed in one breath that the judgment was pre-written, while asserting in another that it was a direct reaction to a political rally held less than 24 hours prior.
“We find it laughable that the ousted ADC leadership is not even sure of what to believe about the judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja,” the statement read.
The group recalled that the same party leaders had heavily praised the judiciary earlier in the year when the Supreme Court ordered the return of the case to the lower court, which momentarily favored the Mark-led faction. TMSG argued that it is hypocritical for politicians to celebrate judicial decisions when favourable and resort to blackmail, subtle threats of violence, and institutional malignment when they lose.
“We believe that rather than issue subtle threats of violence, they should simply do what they say they will do; wait for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment and proceed to the Appeal Court,” TMSG stated.
Maintaining that the opposition party has strayed from the path of order and the rule of law, the group urged Nigerians to remain vigilant regarding the antics of unstable political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
