Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has reinstated the Ministry of Defence’s top civil servant after an investigation cleared him of involvement in a fake agency scam, the ministry has announced.
Richard Pheelangwah, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, formally resumed his duties on Tuesday following his exoneration by the government. Defence Minister General Christopher Musa welcomed Mr. Pheelangwah back to the ministry’s headquarters, expressing confidence in their continued working relationship and emphasizing the need for leadership synergy to advance national security.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, the government said Mr. Pheelangwah’s return demonstrated the administration’s “commitment to upholding due process, fairness, and zero tolerance for misconduct, while also ensuring that innocent public officers are not unjustly punished.”
Addressing ministry officials upon his return, Mr. Pheelangwah expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and pledged to discharge his duties with renewed dedication to support Nigeria’s strategic defence objectives.
