The Nigerian Embassy in Qatar has achieved a significant reduction in processing times for passport renewals and issuances, returning newly produced travel documents to applicants within two weeks.
The turnaround follows a dedicated 10-day passport intervention exercise conducted at the mission in Doha between 11 and 21 August 2026.
During the drive, consular staff processed biometric capture and documentation for 751 Nigerian nationals, comprising 441 applications for five-year passports and 310 requests for 10-year validity documents.
Distribution of the completed passports commenced on 18 September, delivering travel documents to applicants significantly faster than standard diplomatic processing timelines.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, described the rapid processing as a major milestone for the mission’s service delivery.
“The fact that passports are now being completed and returned within about two weeks of capture demonstrates our commitment to improving service delivery and responding to the needs of our community,” Prof. Yakubu said, emphasizing the necessity of valid travel documents for employment, residency status, and international mobility.
