Engineers in southern Nigeria are working to restore four high-voltage electricity towers following the latest in a string of attacks on the regional power grid.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed on Monday that rehabilitation work is underway along the Afam-IPP to Elelenwo 132kV double-circuit line near Port Harcourt.Maintenance crews discovered the damage after thieves stripped essential steel components from four consecutive towers, numbered T50 through T53. According to the state-owned grid operator, it marks the fifth time this specific supply route has required major repairs due to sabotage in recent months.
In a statement released on on Monday, TCN management urged local stakeholders to help protect power infrastructure, warning that repeated damage to key circuits threatens the overall stability of the national grid.
