Troops from the Nigerian military, working alongside local vigilantes, have captured key commanders of an armed group implicated in the abduction and killing of Major General Abubakar Rabe in Katsina State.The joint operation, conducted under the banner of Operation Fansan Yamma, targeted a faction led by the commander known as “Kachalla Maha.”Among those apprehended is Samagi, identified by security sources as a high-ranking figure within the group’s leadership structure.
The security forces relied on local vigilantes for support and intelligence to navigate the remote terrain where the group operated.Major General Rabe’s death had intensified pressure on the government to act against armed groups operating in the North-West, where widespread kidnappings for ransom, raids on villages, and targeted killings have displaced thousands.
Military analysts suggest the arrest of Samagi and other senior operatives could yield critical intelligence regarding the group’s logistics networks, hideouts, and local collaborators across Katsina and neighbouring states.
The captured suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing interrogation to determine their involvement in the general’s death and other recent attacks in the region.
Defence authorities are expected to release further details regarding the total number of detainees and any military hardware seized during the raid.
