MADRID — Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassador to Spain, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has officially assumed his diplomatic duties after presenting his letters of credence to King Felipe VI at the Royal Palace in Madrid.
The ceremony on Monday marks a fresh effort by West Africa’s largest economy to deepen diplomatic and economic ties with Europe, according to a statement signed by Oluwafemi Adeniyi, spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the presentation, Mr. Ikpeazu conveyed warm wishes from Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and highlighted key sectors for strategic collaboration, including trade, energy, agriculture, and security.
Following the palace ceremony, the Nigerian Embassy hosted a reception for diplomats, Spanish officials, and members of the Nigerian diaspora.
Speaking at the event, the ambassador called for direct flights between the two nations to boost business and tourism, urging a review of existing trade and aviation agreements.
He also praised the Nigerian community in Spain, describing them as vital to fostering stronger cultural and economic links between Madrid and Abuja.
