The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared a force majeure after a major transmission tower collapsed in Kebbi State, cutting off bulk electricity transmission along the 330 kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi line.
The announcement comes just weeks after a similar weather-related declaration on the 132 kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey line, where three towers collapsed following heavy rain and windstorms.
According to TCN, the latest incident began at 22:44 local time on Monday, 7 September, when the 330 kV transmission line tripped. A restoration attempt shortly after also failed.
Inspectors patrolling the corridor on Tuesday discovered that Tower T367 had collapsed due to severe winds and heavy rainfall in the area.
TCN said it has deployed engineers and equipment to rebuild the structure and restore the line.
In the interim, electricity supply to Sokoto is being rerouted through an alternative transmission path via Kaduna, Zaria, Funtua, and Gusau to minimize power disruptions.
