Police in Nigeria’s Delta State say a resident fought off a gunman who broke into his home, causing the suspect’s weapon to break during the struggle.
The incident happened in the Effurun area near Warri at about 05:30 local time on 4 September.
According to police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe, two masked men armed with a locally made shotgun broke into the 48-year-old victim’s residence.
When confronted, the resident wrestled with the armed suspect, damaging the gun. The second intruder then struck the man on the forehead before both suspects fled, leaving the broken firearm behind.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, and officers have launched a manhunt for the suspects. Delta State Police Commissioner Samuel Erale praised the resident’s courage and assured the public that those responsible would be caught.
In a separate operation in Agbor on 6 September, police arrested 40-year-old Joy Anthony on suspicion of drug peddling.
Officers seized a quantity of prescription drugs—including Swinol, Tramadol, and Codeine—alongside cannabis during a search of her home. She remains in custody as investigations continue.
