​Parts of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, and surrounding towns will experience a six-hour power outage on Tuesday for annual maintenance work on key electricity infrastructure.

​The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that engineers will carry out routine preventive maintenance at the Katampe substation between 10:00 and 16:00 local time (09:00 to 15:00 GMT).

​The work will focus on the switchgear and related equipment along the 132kV Katampe–Gwarimpa transmission line.

​As a result, the local distribution company, AEDC, will be unable to supply electricity to several high-density residential and commercial districts during the period.

​Affected areas include:

• ​Abuja suburbs: Parts of Gwarinpa, Dawaki, Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa (including Arab Road), Bwari, and Jiwa.
• ​Key facilities: Mopol Barracks and the FCT College of Education.
• ​Outlying towns: Suleja Township, Field Base, Madalla, and Zuba.

​TCN apologized to residents for the scheduled disruption, stating the brief shutdown is necessary to ensure long-term stability across the regional grid.

Planned power outages are common in Nigeria to allow for critical grid repairs and upkeep.
