TCN announces urgent maintenance at Katampe substation in Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced urgent maintenance work at its 330/132/33 kV Katampe Transmission Substation today, Saturday, 5 September 2026.

According to a management statement, the emergency shutdown is required to allow engineers to seal an oil leak on one of the power transformers at the facility.

The maintenance exercise is scheduled to run for nine hours, commencing at 10:00 am and concluding at 7:00 pm.

Impact on electricity supply

TCN confirmed that several circuits will be taken offline during the repair period, affecting power distribution across parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to draw electricity from the affected feeders to supply customers connected to the transformer.

Expressing regret over the planned outage, TCN apologized to consumers for the inconvenience and assured the public that power will be restored once maintenance is completed.
