Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), has assured citizens living abroad that the government is strengthening national security to ensure a safer country and facilitate seamless visits home.
General Musa gave the assurance during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Luanda, Angola, on the sidelines of the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
The minister, who attended the summit as part of a high-level Nigerian delegation led by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to neutralizing security threats nationwide.
Addressing concerns raised by the diaspora, General Musa explained that several ongoing security challenges stem from regional instability in the Sahel spilling across borders, adding that comprehensive border management measures were being deployed to curb illegal incursions.
The meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who highlighted recent upgrades to national identity management and data protection systems, and NiDCOM Chair Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who reiterated the commission’s commitment to supporting the welfare of Nigerians abroad.
