Troops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted separate terrorist attacks in Zamfara State, safely rescuing 16 abducted civilians across the Kaura Namoda and Tsafe Local Government Areas.
The dual operations took place on Friday, 28 August 2026, as troops responded to emergency reports of civilian-targeted raids and transit ambushes.
Community Invasion and Highway Ambush Thwarted
Military interventions across both sectors successfully secured the victims without casualties:
- Kauran Namoda Raid: Responding to an early morning distress call regarding a community invasion, troops engaged the invading terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat and rescuing four male civilians unharmed.
- Tsafe Highway Interception: Later the same day, soldiers intercepted an ongoing attack on a major transit route in Tsafe LGA where terrorists had ambushed two commercial vehicles. Following a heavy firefight, troops forced the assailants to flee, rescuing 12 passengers.
- Corridor Secured: Following the rescue in Tsafe, troops restored normal traffic flow along the highway and reinforced the security posture across the surrounding communities to prevent further incursions.
While the rapid rescues highlight the military’s improved response times, the recurring highway ambushes serve as a stark reminder of the persistent danger facing travelers across Zamfara.
