The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has rejected claims by Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company that transmission network constraints are causing power supply disruptions in Jos and surrounding areas.
In a formal statement released on Thursday, 27 August 2026, TCN described the distribution company’s assertions as false and a misrepresentation of operational facts, clarifying that bulk power transmission to the region remains fully functional.
Grid Integrity and Operational Action
Addressing the allegations, TCN outlined recent grid management operations along the Jos transmission corridor:
- Full Capacity: The transmission company confirmed that all 330kV transmission lines connected to Jos are currently in service and actively carrying bulk power.
- Routine Control Incident: TCN acknowledged a single temporary measure on 23 August 2026, when the Jos–Lafia 330kV Line 2 circuit breaker was opened at 03:30 hrs for routine voltage control to maintain grid stability. The line was restored to service by 11:59 hrs on 24 August 2026.
- No Ongoing Disruption: TCN emphasized that no outages or transmission disruptions attributable to its infrastructure have occurred on any 330kV line supplying Jos since the completion of that routine procedure.
Call for Accurate Communication
Urging distribution companies to verify operational details before releasing public notices, TCN advised electricity consumers in Jos and neighboring communities to disregard reports of transmission-induced load shedding.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to transparent operations and continued collaboration with distribution partners to maintain stable power delivery across the national grid.
